Bearings are essential parts of wind turbine gearboxes, exposed to high loads and speeds during operation. The leading technology is designed and produced by Winergy itself and is a superior option to the commonly used rolling bearings sourced from external suppliers. Why?

#1 Bearings have a crucial impact on the reliability of the entire gearbox and its operating costs: With the right installation, journal bearings are more reliable and cause less downtime compared to planet roller bearings.

#2 Journal bearings enable increased torque density, which means: More power on the same design space.

#3 Compared to planet roller bearings, journal bearings are significantly cheaper – and shorter lead times are possible.

HIGH QUALITY BASED ON LONG DEVELOPMENT TIME

The first ideas for the use of journal bearings came up back in 2009. Four years later,
the first prototype was tested in the field. In 2015, Winergy concluded that the
gearbox still works successfully.
Now, Winergy has a track record of more than 50,000 journal bearings in serial
gearboxes worldwide since the first small series production in 2017. This is around
23GW of installed base with lower failure rates compared to planet roller bearings.
And just to make the figure easier to understand: With this installed base around 8
million electric vehicles can drive around the world for a year.
